BIBIN K. S Assignment 1
Assignment questions for Pastoral Communication course
1. Write the kind of communication Jesus had.
Jesus is the ultimate teacher who proclaimed the kingdom of heaven in a way that continues to capture attention even today. As a communicator, He used diverse methods to make His ministry fruitful. In the Gospels, we primarily see the verbal communication of Jesus—for example, the Sermon on the Mount. At the same time, Jesus often communicated nonverbally, such as His silence before Pilate during the trial, which conveyed profound meaning.
When Jesus spoke about the kingdom of God, it was a channel-based face-to-face communication. A form of mediated communication can be seen in His interaction with the disciples of John the Baptist when they conveyed John’s question. Very often, Jesus used a teacher–student method of one-way communication, especially through parables. However, He also engaged in two-way communication, such as when He explained the parable of the sower to His disciples.
The Gospels also highlight communication based on relationships. Jesus engaged in interpersonal and group communication, especially when performing miracles. Contextual communication and other approaches are also evident. By adapting His methods to each situation, Jesus ensured that His message bore lasting fruit.
